Fall Fundraiser Study Guide

Study Guide for WFI’s 2020 Fall Fundraiser with RZIM’s Brandon Cleaver

  1. After watching the 3 minute video of the immigrant family at the beginning of the event:
    1. Can you remember a time where you felt isolated and fearful in a foreign environment?
    2. Did you ever receive help?
    3. What was most helpful for you?
    4. Do you have anyone in your life that could identify with the mom and what is one thing you can do to help them?
  1. How would you define “Made in the image of God” to someone who has never heard of this concept?

  1. “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations-these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit-immortal horrors or everlasting splendours. This does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn. We must play. But out merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously-no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption.“ – CS Lewis, The Weight of Glory

How does seeing humans either as “immortal horrors” or “everlasting splendours” change the way you would relate to your friends, family, and strangers?

  1. Jesus “had to go through Samaria.” Jesus clearly goes out of his way to care for the outcast, the stranger, the racially different, the downtrodden. He calls his followers to do the same.
    1. In what ways has Jesus called you to do this in the past?
    2. Do you believe Jesus is calling you to do this in the near future?
  1. What is ONE thing you will do in response to the WFI Fall Fundraiser?

  1. Would you consider giving to Water for Ishmael?
    1. If you do give already, why do you give to WFI?
    2. If you don’t, what keeps you from giving?

Would you take a few minutes and pray:

  1. That God would move many to give and provide for all WFI’s needs
  2. That God would mobilize His people to be agents of reconciliation in every part of our society and the world
  3. That many, just like the Samaritan woman, would experience eternal salvation through Jesus Christ
