Local Church Adopts Refugee Family

Maumee First Presbyterian is serious about Welcoming the Stranger

Years of “doing good.”   For a family of 4 arriving in Toledo the second week of November, God is writing a special story. Typically, refugees are greeted at the airport by the refugee resettlement officer, but this family will be greeted by a group from a local church. A fully-furnished apartment, a hot meal, and warm smiles from Maumee First Presbyterian Church will be waiting for them.

More than 2 years ago, this church began a Muslim-Christian dialogue in order to better understand Muslims and to hear, first-hand, what they believe. God began to prepare them to do even more. Soon, they will be receiving a Muslim family from Syria with welcoming arms.

None of them have experience with resettling refugees, but they do have Christ’s love in their hearts and a willingness to walk into the unknown. They have committed to walk with this family in their new home for 3-6 months as they figure out English, work, school, and life in their new place of refuge: America.
